Japanese Alps
The Japanese Alps are a mountain range that cuts through the middle of Japans' main island of Honshu. We have grouped the towns and cities located in and along the range into this category from Kanazawa on the western edge through to Nagano, including Matsumoto often considered the gateway to the Alps.
Matsumoto can be reached in around 2 hours 40 minutes from Tokyo by Limited Express train and Kanazawa in just over 3 hours on the Hokuriku Shinkansen. Travel through the Alps is a slower more relaxed style of travel and very special experience.
